Treatment for Depression

Depression Treatment

Everyone feels low from time to time. When that sadness colors most of your days and changes your behavior, however, it may be time for professional help.

Patients presenting with depression can expect:

1. A comprehensive assessment of the biological, social, and psychological factors involved in the case.

2. Review of relevant records (best to bring them with you!).

3. Collaborative development of a treatment plan that may include

A: Use of medications where appropriate.

B: Discussion of psychological issues relevant to the case.

C: Referral for consistent psychotherapy where appropriate, usually to another professional.

D: Behavioral interventions, with a focus on lifestyle and habits.

E: Other treatments such as dietary supplements, light therapies, or referral to more intensive treatment programs.

My approach is holistic, addressing the whole person. Depression demands the best treatments with the best evidence, and in keeping with that, we often start with a focus on medications and referral for psychotherapy. In the fullness of time, however, many different types of treatment can be explored.
